Recent split system installs in homes across Cairns and Far North Queensland.
A back-to-back changeover starts near $1,480 for a small 2.5kW system, up to about $3,500 for larger units. See our full Cairns cost guide for the detail.
A split system installed in Cairns typically costs from around $1,480 for a small 2.5kW back-to-back changeover up to about $3,500 for a larger system. A changeover is cheaper because the existing pipework, electrical and wall penetrations are usually reused, while a brand new install costs more. We give free site inspections and itemised quotes.
A single split system pairs one indoor head with one outdoor unit to cool a single room. A multi-split runs several indoor heads from one outdoor unit, cooling multiple rooms independently, which is ideal when outdoor space is limited or you want a tidier look.
A standard back-to-back split system install usually takes 3 to 4 hours, while a multi-split system generally takes a full day depending on the number of heads and the run lengths. We work cleanly and leave the place tidy.
Yes. Our split and multi-split systems are reverse cycle, so they provide efficient cooling in summer and heating in the cooler months, which is handy on the Atherton Tablelands. Cooling-only systems are also available if heating isn't needed.
Usually yes, especially if your unit is more than about 10 years old. A modern inverter air conditioner can use roughly 30% less electricity than an older fixed-speed unit for the same cooling, and each extra energy star is worth around 15 to 25% less power again. With Cairns power now around 34 cents per kWh, that adds up - see our old vs new guide.
Want whole-home comfort instead? See ducted air conditioning, or compare them in our ducted vs split guide.
Two quotes for the same room can differ by a wide margin and both be honest, because they are quoting different work. Most of the difference sits in things that stop being visible the moment the job is finished.
Read the full guideWall thickness, and whether it is protected from direct sun. Unprotected insulation splits in the tropics and the cold line starts to sweat.

Whether the pipework is pressure tested and properly evacuated. Moisture left inside shortens compressor life years later.
Whether the load was calculated or estimated from the room size. It is the decision that most affects how happy you are with the system.
On time very polite and worked through to completion. Both techs were excellent, cleaned up the boxes and old AC units. Highly recommended.
